In the Kitchen…

I’ve been in the mood to bake, and I found some great, easy recipes to try this week.

Yesterday I baked a batch of shortbread…such buttery goodness, I’ll post the recipe link later, it’s easy!

Tonight I finished some baked cinnamon doughnuts, from a recipe I found on my friend Erica’s delicious cooking blog, Apricosa.

Here’s the ingredient list (see link for the rest) & my photo:

Baked Cinnamon Sugar Donuts
Makes ~ 10 donuts and 10 donut holes

2/3 cup warm milk, 95 to 105 degrees (divided)
1 1/4 tsp. active dry yeast
1 Tbs. butter
1/3 cup sugar
1 egg, lightly beaten
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for kneading
1/8 tsp. freshly-grated nutmeg
1/2 tsp. fine grain sea salt

1/2 cup milk
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 1/2 Tbs. cinnamon

Earth Day & Oceans

Happy Earth Day everyone! We are blessed to call this earth home & blessed by the awesome beauty God created that surrounds us, especially in Santa Barbara.

In honor of earth, Ryan & I and some of our family are going to see Disney’s new nature film called Oceans, to be inspired! Ever since we saw a sneak preview of Disneynature’s upcoming nature films at the Disney Expo last year, we’ve been looking forward to seeing them all.

In honor of everyone that that sees Oceans in it’s opening week, Disneynature will make a donation, through the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund, to The Nature Conservancy’s Adopt a Coral Reef program to protect reefs in the Bahamas and around the world. Way to go Disney, I’m a big fan of this idea!

Fun with Logan & Lake & Mom

Although we love our new place, we sometimes miss the pleasures of Summerland. However we still have many opportunities to visit, since my brother’s family and sister & husband still live there. A few weeks ago we met up with my mom at Lookout Park while she was babysitting my nephews, Lake & Logan. Logan is 3 and is in love with anything that has to do with the Disney Cars movie, and the blue car Dynaco is one his favorites. He likes when they go fast, and Ryan took the opportunity to photograph him while he was racing his cars down the slide.

We Moved!

After living in Summerland for about 8 months, we downsized and moved to a 1 bdrm place. We are now officially Santa Barbarians… It worked out great because we’re saving a lot more money, living in a house that was made into a duplex, complete with deck, jacuzzi & a big yard for Roman with lots of gophers and lizards to chase around. And every morning we wake up we can see the red-tiled rooftops & whitewashed buildings of downtown Santa Barbara, and from our deck we can see the ocean. What could be better?

Senior Year

Out of the goodness of my heart… I was volunteered to create a senior yearbook collage page for my sister, Mariah, and 9 of her friends. I was actually glad I could work on this for them, I know how close knit these girls and it will mean a lot to look back on the memories. I can’t believe Mariah will be graduating this year! I really see her maturing, bit by bit, and I’m looking forward to seeing the life that she will make for herself and her future. Love you, sis
